Subaru Legacy, Outback Recalled for Steering Malfunction

June 20, 2013

Subaru announced a recall this week of 5,400 of its 2013 Legacy and Outback model cars in the United States due to a mechanical issue that may cause drivers to lose steering control.

According to the recall announcement, the steering shaft in the vehicles consists of two pieces which can separate, causing the driver to lose the ability to steer.

The defect was discovered in Subaru’s Indiana factory, and auto dealers that sold the affected cars will begin notifying people who purchased the vehicles within 30 days.

As part of the recall, Subaru will replace the defective steering columns, and will pay to have the vehicles towed to local dealerships for repairs.

No accidents or injuries have been reported as a result of the issue.
