$25 Million Claim Filed Over Death of TSA Agent at LAX
A $25 million claim was filed against the city of Los Angeles this week by the family of a TSA agent who was shot and killed while working as a security screener at the city’s international airport last November.
The claim, which was filed by the family of 53-year-old Gerardo Hernandez, alleges that security lapses at the airport contributed to the agent’s death, which marked the first death of a U.S. Transportation Security Administration agent in the line of duty ever.
Hernandez was shot 12 times by 23-year-old Paul Anthony Ciancia, who went on a shooting spree near the security checkpoint at Terminal 3 of the airport. Three other people were injured in the shooting.
The claim is a precursor to a lawsuit, which the family’s attorney says they intend to file if the city doesn’t respond to the claim within six months.
