Judge Still Weighing ‘Stop Drive Order’ for Defective GM Cars

April 04, 2014

On Friday, a federal judge delayed a ruling on whether to issue a “stop drive” order that would have required 2.6 million General Motors Co. vehicle owners to cease driving their cars.

The affected vehicles are subject to a recall which was issued in February due to defective ignition switches that have been linked to at least 13 deaths in the U.S.

U.S. District Court Judge Nelva Gonzales Ramos said she will refrain from ruling on the matter until she has had more time to examine briefs submitted by attorneys in the case.

The “stop drive order” was requested by two owners of cars equipped with the defective switches. Ramos is expected to issue a ruling early next week.
