CrossFit Sued by Transgender Woman Barred from Competition
A transgender woman has filed a lawsuit against CrossFit claiming that the company has unfairly barred her from competing as a woman in the upcoming CrossFit Games.
The lawsuit, which was filed by Chloie Jonnson on Thursday in Santa Cruz, California, accuses the company of discrimination and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
Jonnson, who underwent a sex reassignment surgery in 2006, claims that she should be allowed to compete in the women’s competition because the state of California legally recognizes her as a woman.
A spokesperson for CrossFit said that because Jonnson was born a male, she is only allowed to compete in the men’s division.
Johnson is seeking $2.5 million in damages.
