- Examiner – January 12, 2012 - Ship Small Prompts Lawsuit Against Cruise Line More than 200 persons have filed a 'class action type' lawsuit against a cruise line because of problems with odors and poor hygiene when they sailed two years ago. British based Thomson Cruises experienced problems on their flagship, the Dream, and passengers that sailed between May and October, 2010 have filed the suit.
- USAToday – Bahamas – January 12, 2012 - Electronic Cruise Runs Aground in the Bahamas To any driver who has ever yelled: "Turn that music down or I'm going to have an accident!" we present the case of the MSC Poesia. According to the cruise line the accident happened at 6:50 a.m. while the 2,550-passenger ship was navigating Port Lucaya harbor near Freeport in the Grand Bahamas at low tide. It was pulled off the reef by tugboats later that evening. The incident occurred on the second day of the Holy Ship! Voyage, which featured 20 DJs blasting electronica at all hours.
- Examiner – Houston, Texas – January 1, 2012 - Dramatic Video: Coast Guard Rescues Injured Carnival Passenger Another cruise ship rescue this week, as a Coast Guard helicopter crew from Houston evacuated a 73 year old man from Carnival Triumph. This was an unusual nighttime operation on Thursday near midnight. The ship was about 120 miles off the coast of Galveston, Texas.
Sun-Sentinel – Fort Lauderdale, Florida – January 5, 2012 - Cruise Ship Rape Suspect Faces Monitoring if Freed A man from Brazil accused this week of raping a girl aboard a cruise ship will face increased monitoring if he is freed from jail, according to a Broward County judge. Luiz Scavone, 20, of Sao Paulo, was one of two suspects taken into custody at Port Everglades on Tuesday on one count of lewd and lascivious battery, according to arrest reports.
